Museum in Kazan closed for the Wedding of Minister’s Daughter

How much does the culture cost?

In the social networks, the hype around the Minister of Culture of Tatarstan Irada Ayupova does not cease. She arranged the wedding of her daughter in the state museum, which was closed to visitors for this occasion. The liberal media already denounce the official and demand her resignation. The authorities say that everything is legal. And we ask ourselves: why have museums in bourgeois Russia turned into commercial stalls?

The scandalous wedding of Ayupova’s daughter took place on February 2. On this day, the museum was announced to be closed to visitors «for technical reasons». According to liberals, some honored artists of Tatarstan were present at the wedding, taking up to 150 thousand rubles for their performances. Alexey Navalny’s headquarters traditionally demanded the resignation:

“Such behavior is unworthy of the Minister of Culture: Ayupova must apologize and resign. The director of the museum, Rozalia Nurgaleeva, who knew for sure about the wedding, and therefore condoned the misuse of the state gallery, should go, too».

However, the authorities explained that the wedding was held in accordance with the law and the rules of the museum:

“The Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan … approved a list of cultural institutions in which, at the request of persons entering into marriage, state registration of marriage can be carried out. The list of objects open for wedding registration also includes the Pushkin Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan (State Museum of Fine Arts of Tatarstan)».

Ayupova herself also does not understand what seems to be a problem:

“This is an absolutely legitimate service. This is not a rental of the hall, but the organization of an outdoor wedding ceremony, and the service is presented on the museum’s website … The service, by order of the local cabinet, has been allowed since 2010″.

Indeed, the site of the museum reports on such a commercial service as wedding registration. References to relevant regulatory documents are given.

Unlike the followers of Alexey Navalny, we have no questions for Ms. Ayupova or other officials from the Ministry of Culture. We are well aware that the ruling class can compose and approve any laws that it sees fit. If oligarchs and officials need to turn museums into brothels, they will take the corresponding piece of paper, and the brothel in the museum will become as «legal» as the wedding celebration has become.

We have a question for all sensible and caring people: why in bourgeois Russia have museums and other cultural objects turned into commercial stalls? Why are museums, theaters, universities, clinics, hospitals and many other institutions important for the development of society forced to earn a living? Why did they become sellers of “services”? .. These are rhetorical questions. After all, we well know that capitalism consistently takes away from a person all their rights and then returns — actually sells! — a surrogate of rights under the guise of «services».

Culture, as well as education, healthcare, labour and much more, is not a commodity. It’s our right which will need to be won from such people like Ayupova.
